Floating Solar —
Smart Use of Water Surfaces

The Intech
Floating System

Turning Water Surfaces into Power Sources

Floating Photovoltaik

Harness Solar Power Where It’s Least Expected — On Water.

Floating photovoltaic systems (Floating PV) are redefining how we generate clean energy while protecting valuable natural resources. These innovative solar technologies are installed directly on water surfaces, enabling the efficient dual use of reservoirs, gravel pits, and agricultural irrigation basins.

Compared to traditional rooftop or ground-mounted systems, Floating PV offers key advantages: the natural cooling effect of the water increases the efficiency and energy yield of the solar modules, while at the same time significantly reducing water evaporation.

Efficient Dual Use

No competition for agricultural or industrial land.

Reduced Water Loss

Large-scale shading significantly reduces evaporation rates.

Increased Efficiency

Up to 5% higher energy yields thanks to natural module cooling.

Lower Water Temperatures

Protection against extreme solar radiation.

No Land Preparation Required

No need for massive foundations or steel structures.

Application Areas for Floating PV

Maximize the Use of
Your Water Areas

Irrigation Reservoirs in Agriculture

With Floating PV, you can maximize the use of your irrigation reservoirs — generating sustainable electricity while significantly reducing water evaporation. Ideal for boosting crop yields with less water loss.

Gravel Pits and Dredging Lakes

Turn unused water surfaces into valuable energy assets. Our floating PV systems make gravel pits and dredging lakes economically viable — efficiently and sustainably.

Industrial and Municipal Water Reservoirs

Floating PV helps lower operating costs and reduce CO₂ emissions. Perfect for water treatment plants, wastewater facilities, and industrial retention basins — efficient, space-saving, and future-proof.

Retention Basins and Canals

Small water surfaces, big impact: Floating PV protects against evaporation, lowers water temperatures, and supplies eco-friendly electricity — an ideal solution for municipalities.

FAQ about Floating PV

What is a Floating PV System and How Does It Work?

In a floating PV system, photovoltaic modules are installed on interconnected floating platforms, which are securely anchored — either to the lakebed or to the shore.
The generated electricity is transferred to land via floating or underground cables.

Our floating systems are made from HDPE (100% recyclable) and designed for a service life of 25–30 years.
They are resistant to wind, waves, UV radiation, and temperature fluctuations.
The 15° module tilt also ensures a self-cleaning effect.

From feasibility analysis to commissioning, the process typically takes a few months.
Installation on the water usually takes just a few weeks.

We implement projects on large dredging lakes as well as smaller bodies of water like agricultural irrigation ponds.
We assess your site and energy needs individually.
As a rule of thumb, approximately 0.8 hectares of water surface are needed per 1 MW of installed capacity.

Not every water surface is ideal.
Calm waters with minimal currents and a nearby grid connection are best.
In some countries, only artificial reservoirs are permitted for floating PV installations.
We assist you with thorough site evaluations.

Does Floating PV Affect Water Quality?

No — on the contrary: floating PV can actually improve water quality.
Our semi-transparent glass-glass modules help reduce excessive algae growth and promote ecological balance.
All system components are extensively tested for leaching and are approved for drinking water reservoirs.

Large-scale shading from the modules can reduce water evaporation by up to 70% — a major advantage for water-scarce regions and agricultural operations.

Floating PV installations are subject to permitting.
Depending on the site, water law approvals, building permits, and environmental impact assessments may be required.
We guide you through the entire permitting process.

No.
Our systems are designed to preserve ecological balance.
They help reduce algae growth and protect the water surface from overheating.
Environmental impact is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Generally, yes — with appropriate safety zones and access controls.
In practice, we focus on technical or decommissioned water bodies without significant recreational use.
We advise you on dual-use possibilities.

Who Can Benefit Most from Floating PV Systems?
  • Agricultural operations with irrigation ponds or reservoirs

  • Gravel pit and dredging lake operators

  • Industrial companies with cooling water reservoirs

  • Municipalities managing retention basins or waterworks

Depending on solar irradiation and system configuration, up to 1.4 MW of capacity can be installed per hectare of water surface — for example, with east-west module orientation.
Actual energy yield depends on the specific location.

Yes.
Floating PV systems offer an attractive return on investment due to efficient use of water surfaces, higher yields from natural module cooling, and the elimination of costly land preparation.

Yes.
In Germany, floating PV is eligible for funding under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
There are also regional support programs available.
We provide consultation and handle the application process for you.

Our systems are virtually maintenance-free.
Integrated walkways ensure easy access for inspections and cleaning.
All components are built for longevity and are easily replaceable if necessary.
